Frequently Asked Questions
ABOUT US
About our baker
All cakes are baked and decorated by Chae, the owner and baker behind Waddle & Whisk.
Where did the name “Waddle & Whisk” come from?
The name came to Chae while pregnant, waddling around and dreaming up the business. Her first child’s first word was “Duck,” so a duck-themed name felt perfect for our waddling team. It adds a joyful, playful twist in the kitchen while we create beautiful, handmade cakes. Every order is made with care, attention to detail, and a touch of cheek.
Are you a licensed food business?
Yes! We bake and decorate from a registered A-Grade home kitchen in Northpark, East Auckland. We are fully certified with Auckland Council’s food safety standards, while still offering the care and attention of a small, home-based business.

- Vanilla

- Lemon Curd
Do you use fondant?
We specialise in buttercream finishes, but can sometimes add fondant decorations if requested. Please contact us at chae@wadddleandwhisk.co.nz with your design questions.
Can you make black buttercream?
Yes, we love black cakes! Please note we use black cocoa powder to achieve this colour, which gives the buttercream a stronger, slightly bitter Oreo like flavour, rather than the usual creamy, ice cream style taste.
Can you make white buttercream?
We aim to make the colour as light as possible, but pure white is not achievable naturally. Our buttercream has a subtle ivory undertone.
Do you cater for allergies (gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free)?
Our cakes are made in a kitchen that handles gluten, dairy, eggs, and nuts. We do not offer allergy-free cakes.
All cakes contain egg, dairy, and wheat as standard ingredients and may also contain soy. While we take care to minimise cross-contamination, we cannot guarantee that any product is completely free from allergens.
ORDERING ONLINE
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and AfterPay.
What is your cancellation/refund policy?
Refunds and cancellations are subject to our Refund Policy.
How do rush orders work?
A minimum of 7 days’ notice is required for all orders. Occasionally, we’re able to accept rush orders depending on availability. To check if we can fit your order in, please email us at hello@waddleandwhisk.co.nz before placing your order.
If we’re able to accommodate your request, we’ll send you a link to process your order, which will include the applicable rush fee and any discussed extras. A time limit will be provided for payment and confirmation. After this period, we may not be able to accept the rush order as we work to tight schedules, especially once we’re past the 7-day cut-off.
Rush fees are calculated as a percentage based on how short the turnaround time is. In the event that an order is processed after the cut-off without prior approval, we may need to issue a refund minus the payment processing fee.
Can you match a cake to my inspo photo?
Yes, we can create a cake based on a photo, but please note we do not copy other bakers’ designs exactly. We’ll create something inspired, in our own style, and due to the handmade nature of buttercream, shades may not be exact.
Do you make themed cakes (e.g. characters, logos)?
Some cakes offer the option of inedible card toppers. Please select your preferred option and let us know the theme (main characters, logos, etc.) in the notes. If the cake does not include this option, please contact us at hello@waddleandwhisk.co.nz for a quote.
I have a vision, can you make what I'm after?
We’d love to give it a try! Please email us at chae@waddleandwhisk.co.nz, and we can discuss your ideas further.

STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
How should I store my cake?
Cakes should be kept in the fridge, then brought to room temperature before serving (approx. 1–2 hours). Please minimise strong odours in your fridge, as cakes can easily absorb them.
How should I transport my cake?
If you are picking up your cake, we recommend placing it on a flat surface in your vehicle (like the passenger footwell) with the air conditioning on low. Please avoid placing cakes on car seats or laps. Once the cake has been handed over, we cannot take responsibility for any accidents during transport.
How long will my cake last?
Cakes are best enjoyed within 3 days of pickup/delivery. Cupcakes within 1–2 days.
